Vol. 306 No. 10

Written Answers. - Self-employed Persons.

90.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in relation to self-employed persons who submit returns of income to the Revenue Commissioners, (a) the total number of such persons; (b) the number of such persons with declared gross incomes in the ranges (i) up to £30.00 per week; (ii) £30.00-£50.00 per week; (iii) £50.00-£80.00 per week; (iv) £80.00-£100.00 per week and (v) over £100.00 per week.

Information relating to the incomes of the self-employed are set out in tables 92 and 93 of the Annual Report of the Revenue Commissioners for the year to 31 December 1976. A copy of the report is in the Library.

The particulars given in these tables relate to income accruing to persons whose main source of income is from self-employment, investments or rents and cover all persons assessed whether or not returns have been furnished by them. Table 92 covers incomes which are mainly earned incomes and table 93 covers incomes which are mainly unearned.

The tables relate to assessments for the year 1975-76, as adjusted at 28 February 1977. Corresponding figures for the year 1976-77 are not yet available but will be included in the commissioners' report for the year to 31 December 1977.

The information available relating to the incomes of those in the ranges specified by the Deputy is set out in the following table. The particulars given cover both earned and unearned incomes and are subject to the limitations outlined in pages 163 and 164 of the commissioners' annual report.
