Vol. 307 No. 13

Written Answers . - North-Central Dublin Employment Proposals .

172.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the specific employment proposals for North-Central Dublin; and if he is aware of the extremely high jobless rate in this area.

: I am aware of and seriously concerned at the level of unemployment in North-Central Dublin. In 1977 the IDA approved grants in excess of £0.5 million for projects in this area of Dublin which are expected to provide 300 jobs at full production. Moreover, workers residing in this area should benefit from the current and planned industrial developments in other parts of the city and county,. The Deputy is no doubt aware that the IDA Industrial Plan 1977-80 set a target of 9,500 new jobs in manufacturing and service industries in Dublin city and county in that period. It is the Government's intention to provide the necessary funds to enable this target to be achieved.
