Vol. 307 No. 14

Written Answers . - ESB Connection Charges .

59.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if it is intended to bring in a subsidy for ESB connection charges for rural areas, in view of the exorbitant quotations being given for the installation of electricity in houses at the present time.

: I have no plans to introduce a further State-subsidised scheme for connection of rural dwellings to the electricity supply.

In March of this year the ESB introduced more generous terms for connecting householders and small industrial-commercial businesses in rural areas to the electricity supply. A further improvement in the terms, relating to the board's contribution to connection costs, will be introduced soon.
