asked the Minister for Labour the number of applications from employees in each general industrial and services sector and in agriculture, in respect of the employment incentive scheme; the number approved; the number of additional adult and young persons so employed for 1976, 1977 and 1978 to date; the budget allocation for 1978; and the amounts expended to date.

: The scheme as it applies to manufacturing industry and agriculture came into operation on 28 February 1977. The scheme as it applies in the other sectors came into operation at the beginning of September 1977.

The numbers of employers who have made applications up to 16 June 1978 and the numbers who have received payments are as follows:

Additional information is required in the majority of the cases in which payments have not yet been made.

The budget allocation for the scheme in 1978 is £7 million. Expenditure amounted to £796,150 in 1977 and approximately £1.4 million up to 16 June 1978.
