Vol. 308 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Donegal Factory.

483.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if he is aware that the Ceimicí Teoranta factory, Lobhadeach, Manor-cunningham, County Donegal, has been idle for the past few years; and if there are any plans to reopen the factory.

I am aware that Ceimici Teoranta's plant at Labbadish, Manorcunningham, County Donegal, has not been in use since 1971. This factory, which was used to convert surplus potatoes into starch, has given seasonal employment in years in which there was a surplus of potatoes. There were no surplus potatoes in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975 or 1976. In 1977, though the factory was made ready to receive potatoes for processing subject to specified price and supply terms, no supplies were forthcoming.

The factory at Labbadish has been retained on a care and maintenance basis, and its future use is under examination at present by the company.
