Vol. 310 No. 3

Written Answers. - CIE Craftsmen.

37.

asked the Minister for Labour with reference to the former employees of a company in Dublin (details supplied): (a) the number of craftsmen who have been re-employed by CIE; (b) the number of craftsmen who have been employed by CIE in other capacities, and if he will list those capacities; (c) the number of craftsmen who have not been re-employed; and if he will give similar figures for other categories of workers.

I understand from CIE that they have re-employed 87 craftsmen of the company in question as craftsmen and one as a bus conductor and that they have a commitment to re-employ the one other remaining craftsman still with the other company as soon as he is released.

CIE have also re-employed 12 supervisors and 35 operatives in similar capacities and seven other operatives as bus conductors or rail porters and will re-employ one remaining supervisor and six operatives when their employment with the other company is terminated. This covers all workers who had transferred earlier from CIE.

Apart from their own former workers, to whom they have acknowledged a commitment, CIE also took over 16 apprentices who were not previously employed by them, so that they could complete their apprenticeships. Of the staff of the other company who had not previously worked with CIE, five applied for jobs as bus conductors and these were not found suitable.
