The records of redundancies notified under the Redundancy Payments Acts are compiled by reference to employment exchange areas which in the case of east Mayo is the Ballina area. In the year to 24 November 1978 the number of redundancies notified in that area was 42 and of these 26 occurred in and around Ballina itself and 11 in the Killala area.
