Vol. 313 No. 3

Written Answers. - Navan Piped TV Charges.

236.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if any complaints of over-charging for piped television service in Navan have been received either directly or from the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, and the action if any, taken.

237.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if complaints of overcharging for piped television service in Navan have been received; and, if so, the action, if any, taken.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to answer Questions Nos. 236 and 237 together.

A number of complaints were received in the prices division of the Department of Industry, Commerce and Energy and were referred to my Department. The position is that a company, licensed to operate a cable television system in the Navan area, increased its rental charges without the approval of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs. The matter was taken up with the company and they have confirmed that they have ceased charging at the increased rate and have made the necessary adjustments in cases where subscribers have paid the increased charge. My Department are at present considering a recent application from the company for permission to increase their charges.
