The information requested by the Deputy is not available. Table 4 of the Pre-Budget Tables 1979 sets out the State expenditure in relation to agriculture in this country for each year since 1975. On the basis of an estimated 155,000 full-time farmers this works out at an average expenditure of £984 per farmer in 1978. I would point out, however, that not all of the expenditure shown in the table to which I referred can be regarded as direct resource transfers to farmers although benefiting them indirectly.
