I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of burglaries reported in the year 1978 was 18,920. Of these 8,471 occurred in homes, 7,669 in business premises, and 2,780 in other premises.
The figures given relate to "burglaries" as defined in section 6 of the Criminal Law (Jurisdiction) Act, 1976. They do not include "aggravated burglaries" as defined in section 7 of the same Act, as the figures in respect of that offence have not yet been compiled.
