Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - UCG Fisheries Science Degree Course.

35.

asked the Minister for Education in view of the importance of the fishing industry to the Irish economy if funds will be made available for the establishment of a degree course in fisheries science in University College Galway and if he is aware that the President of UCG is planning such a course for the college to commence in October 1980; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Discussions have been in progress for some time between the appropriate authorities regarding a proposal to establish a degree course in fisheries science in University College, Galway. These discussions have not yet been completed and, accordingly, it would be premature for me at this stage to make any statement in regard to it other than to indicate that, in principle, I am very much in favour of the proposal.
