Vol. 315 No. 8

Written Answers. - Brandon (Kerry) Electricity Supply.

87.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if he is aware that some residents of the Brandon district, County Kerry received instructions from the Electricity Supply Board, approximately two years ago, to have their homes wired with a view to getting supply, and the reason they have not been connected to date.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the completion of the 1976 rural electrification scheme in the Brandon area which forms part of the Tralee district.

In the case of every application for connection to the electricity supply, the ESB advise that the internal wiring of premises should be completed well in advance of the board starting construction work in the area so as to avoid delay in the completion of the board's work programme. This is essential because there have been instances in other parts of the country where applicants for connection have caused considerable delay in the work programme by failing to comply with this advice.

The ESB have advised me that, as a result of unavoidable delays due to a very heavy work schedule in the Tralee district, work to connect applicants under the scheme in the Brandon area has not yet got under way as originally anticipated. However, they expect to have Brandon applicants connected to the electricity supply by next March.
