Vol. 315 No. 12

Written Answers. - Offaly School.

179.

asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, to close Longford National School, County Offaly, and amalgamate it with another school, and if he will have consultations with the school management board and the parents' association before a final decision is taken.

In 1974 the then manager of Longford and Cadamstown National Schools indicated that there was full agreement to the closure of these schools and their amalgamation with a suitably extended school in Kinnitty. Plans for the extension and adaptation of the school at Kinnitty have been submitted and a grant towards the cost has been sanctioned. Plans for the amalgamation have now reached an advanced stage and it does not appear that any useful purpose would be served by further consultation.
