The original overall schedule of accommodation to be provided in the school, as drawn up in 1968, included a physical education area.
In 1969, it was agreed that the school should be erected in two stages of building with the physical education area in the second stage. Stage 1 was completed in 1972.
Planning of the second stage was recommended in 1973 but by that time the provision of physical education areas in post-primary schools generally was deferred.
It was agreed that provision could be made in the plans for a physical education area. However, no commitment was given as to when capital grants might be made available.
