Vol. 316 No. 3

Written Answers. - Physically Handicapped Meetings.

418.

asked the Minister for Health the number of requests received from groups representing the physically handicapped for meetings with him; whether he has personally met any representatives of these groups in the last two years; and the plans, if any, to meet with them in the near future.

Such requests have been received from four organisations, namely, the Union of Voluntary Organisations for the Handicapped, the Irish Wheelchair Association, the Physically Handicapped and Disabled Drivers Association of Ireland, and the Disabled Persons Action Group.

I have personally met with representatives of the Union of Voluntary Organisations for the Handicapped and the Disabled Persons Action Group. Officers of my Department met with representatives from the other two bodies and I have considered the reports prepared for me following these discussions.

The Irish Wheelchair Association have renewed their request for a meeting and I have agreed to meet them in the near future.
