Vol. 317 No. 4

Written Answers. - Onion Imports.

352.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is intended to request the EEC to impose restrictions on the importation of onions from non-EEC countries in particular Poland and other Eastern European countries.

The action mentioned by the Deputy can be considered only in the event that imports of onions from a particular third country were causing or threatening to cause a serious disturbance of the market. These circumstances do not obtain at present. Onions are not in oversupply on the market and are being sold in an orderly manner at good prices.
