Vol. 317 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Area Services.

12.

Mr. Walsh

asked the Minister for Labour if AnCO and the National Manpower Service have sections dealing with Gaeltacht areas, including Gaeltacht islands like Oilean Cléire.

The National Manpower Service is a national organisation which provides a service to all parts of the country including the Gaeltacht areas. The placement officers of the NMS are competent to deal with the special requirements of the different areas in which NMS offices are located. The staff serving Gaeltacht areas liaise with bodies such as Gaeltarra Éireann in meeting the special requirements of those areas.

The AnCO Training Centre in Gweedore was established to cater specifically for the training needs of all the Gaeltacht areas in the country. In addition AnCO have operated mobile training units in certain Gaeltacht areas and in the recent past has run community youth training programmes in several Gaeltacht areas including islands, some of which are still going.
