Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tax Revenue.

348.

asked the Minister for Finance the revenue originally budgeted for in 1979, the amount actually received to date in 1979 and the amount expected to be received by the end of the year under the heading of tax revenue contained in the budget tables, if the amount received and the anticipated amount due differ considerably from the budget figure and, if so, the reason for the difference.

The revenue originally budgeted for in 1979 under the heading of tax revenue contained in the budget tables was £2,112 million. The amount received up to 7 December 1979 was £1,905 million. It is not the practice to publish a revised tax revenue estimate in the course of the year but it is expected that receipts will show some shortfall as a result, inter alia, of the PAYE tax concession under the national understanding, the effects of the post office dispute in delaying the collection of revenue and a shortfall in excise duty receipts because of the supply situation for hydrocarbon oils.
