Vol. 318 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment of Physically Disabled.

524.

asked the Minister for Labour if the interdepartmental report on the implementation of the 3 per cent employment target for the physically disabled in the public sector has been issued and, if so, the result of the report.

I set up an interdepartmental committee to monitor progress and to deal with matters arising in the implementation of the Government's quota scheme for the employment of disabled persons in the public service.

The survey report prepared by the National Rehabilitation Board, to which I referred in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 405 on 31 October 1979, has been presented to the committee and is being considered by them at present. The purpose of the survey was to establish the extent and range of job possibilities within the public service for all categories of disabled persons. The report was prepared to assist the committee in its work.

The quota scheme is intended to cover all categories of disabled persons and is not confined to the physically disabled.
