Vol. 319 No. 9

Written Answers. - British Pensioners.

358.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if any moneys are outstanding to persons resident in this country receiving British pensions which were formerly paid through the Irish Post Office system in respect of the period during which adjustments to take account of the rate of exchange between sterling and the Irish punt did not take place.

The once-only exchange rate adjusting payments referred to are to be claimed by the pensioners themselves at their local post offices. It is estimated that, out of a total of about 30,000 pensioners, some 3,000 have not yet claimed their entitlements, but payments are still in progress. The arrangements for the payments have been advertised in the public press on two occasions and have received considerable publicity in the media generally.
