Vol. 323 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Identity of Schools .

12.

asked the Minister for Education the identity of the schools referred to by him in his press statement published on 22 August 1980 (details supplied).

: I do not consider that it would be appropriate to give the names of the schools referred to in my statement.

: Will the Minister explain why his colleague, the Minister for Tourism for example, has to account to this House publicly for every halfpenny given to a boarding house, guesthouse or a hotel when he will not publicly identify in the House schools who are recipients of particular funds from his Department?

: This expenditure is an expenditure incurred by parents in this instance, parents who got in touch with me and said that some of the goods were made in other countries. Pour encourager les autres, I issued a statement saying that I did not want to see this happening.

: Has the Minister any plans to follow up his statement by taking effective administrative action in relation to the schools concerned?

: The actual statement was in reference to school uniforms, as the Deputy knows.
