Vol. 324 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bus Accident Fatalities.

45.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of fatalities arising from bus accidents in 1978, 1979 and in 1980 to-date.

The report entitled "Road Accident Facts 1978", by An Foras Forbartha in 1979, indicates that during 1978, large public service vehicles were involved in a total of 21 fatal accidents, in which eight of the persons killed were occupants of such vehicles. Large public service vehicles are vehicles with seating capacity for more than eight persons — excluding the driver — which are used for the carriage of passengers for reward.

I understand that an analysis of road accidents during 1979 is at present being prepared by An Foras Forbartha and will be published in due course. A detailed analysis of road accidents in the current year is not yet available.
