Vol. 325 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Water Schemes.

32.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals submitted to him for the implementation of group water schemes to meet the needs of the people of Fennor, Gortnahoe, Thurles, and Crohane, Thurles, County Tipperary; the extent of the grants available from all sources, having regard to the number of people of slender means involved; the progress made to date; and when the schemes are likely to be completed.

An application was received in my Department in 1976 for a group scheme at Fennor but this scheme was abandoned. The group have now decided to amalgamate with the Inchirourke scheme as it would be more economic. The Inchirourke group are in the process of collecting local cash contributions for carrying out the scheme.

There is no formal application for a group scheme in Crohane in this Department or in Tipperary County Council. It is understood, however, that a scheme for this area is being designed.

When firm costings are available and local cash contributions collected, grants will be allocated to these groups by my Department. It is not possible at this stage to say what grants will be payable or when these schemes are likely to be completed.

Questions Nos. 33 and 34 have gone for written reply.
