Vol. 325 No. 1

Written Answers. - Firhouse (Dublin) Post Office.

360.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for re-siting the sub-post office at Firhouse, County Dublin to a smaller building which is considered to be at a dangerous junction; and in view of the enormous increase in the population of the Firhouse district if he will now examine the possibility of providing a major post office in the area.

The circumstances in which the sub-post office at Firhouse was transferred to a new location were given in reply to a parliamentary question on 20 November.

The reference to providing a major post office is taken to mean the provision of a departmentally staffed office. Such offices are provided mainly in busy commercial centres where there is a sustained demand for a wide range of counter services. The amount of post office business arising in the Firhouse area, which is mainly residential, is well within the capacity of a sub-post office. A full range of counter services is provided at the existing office and in the circumstances the establishment of a departmentally staffed office in the area would not be warranted.
