It is estimated that the total personal expenditure on alcoholic drink in 1978 and 1979 was £485 million and £570 million, respectively.
Results from the 1979 census of population indicate that the number of persons in the Republic aged 18 years and over in 1979 was 2,141,445. Corresponding information for 1980 is not yet available.
