asked the Minister for Finance the percentage by which the turnover thresholds for compulsory VAT registration for traders have risen since 1972; and the percentages by which the consumer price index and the average size of traders' turnover have increased since then.

(i) The percentage by which the turnover thresholds for compulsory VAT registration have risen since 1972 are as follows: (a) for traders supplying goods, 50 per cent; (b) for traders supplying services, 66? per cent. (ii) The percentage by which the consumer price index has risen since November 1972 is 212 per cent. (iii) The percentage by which the average size of traders' turnover rose between 1973, the first full year of operation of VAT, and 1979 is estimated to be 48 per cent.
