Vol. 326 No. 5

Written Answers. - Galway Regional Hospital Maternity Department.

31.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the serious overcrowding in the maternity department of Galway Regional Hospital which results in inconvenience to patients and intolerable working conditions for medical staff; and when steps will be taken to alleviate this situation.

I accept that additional accommodation is necessary in the maternity department of Galway Regional Hospital and in fact a tender for a major scheme of extension and improvements to that department has been submitted by the Western Health Board. I am considering whether it will be possible to allow work on this scheme to go ahead in 1981. I will keep the Deputy informed.
