Vol. 326 No. 6

Written Answers. - Galway Harbour Site.

9.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he is aware of the desire of Galway Harbour Commissioners to have control over 38 acres on the south side of the railway line at Lough Atalia; and if he will give a decision on this application.

The land in question at Lough Atalia covers about 54 acres which was acquired by the State in connection with the establishment of a fishery harbour centre at Galway. In 1972 because of local opposition to the project the Government deferred its implementation but agreed to retain the land against the possibility of future harbour development.

In 1979 the Government decided to establish the fishery harbour centre at Rossaveel. The question of the future use of the land at Lough Atalia is being considered in consultation with other Government Departments.

The request of Galway Harbour Commissioners for part of the land in question will be considered if it should be decided to sell the property.
