Vol. 326 No. 7

Written Answers. - State Forest Thinnings Price.

165.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the price being obtained for thinnings from State forests from (a) export buyers (b) home buyers, indicating in each case whether the price per ton is for standing timber or otherwise.

I presume the Deputy is referring to thinnings of pulpwood size timber the current market for which is very depressed.

Apart from the special arrangements with Chipboard Limited, (in receivership) whereby the company are being paid to fell and extract pulpwood, the purchase price ruling in recent times for such timber (standing) — whether used for home or export purposes — ranges from about £1 to £3 per metric ton, depending on such factors as location, species, size mix.
