Vol. 326 No. 7

Written Answers. - Telephone Rental Allowance.

169.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a free telephone rental allowance will be awarded to a person (details supplied) in Dublin.

As the Deputy will be aware, the free telephone rental allowance scheme is being extended, from April 1981, to include recipients of British and Northern Ireland retirement pensions under the same conditions as apply to social welfare pensioners.

An application form has been forwarded to the person concerned, who is a British retirement pensioner and, according to the records of my Department, satisfies the other conditions of the scheme. On receipt of the completed application in my Department, the Department of Posts and Telegraphs will, subject to confirmation that she is the registered telephone subscriber, be notified to apply the allowance to her telephone account with effect from 1 April 1981.
