Vol. 326 No. 9

Written Answers. - Meath Schools.

167.

asked the Minister for Education the progress made in respect of the replacement of prefabricated classrooms in each of the following schools in County Meath since his replies to Parliamentary Questions on 12 July 1979: (1) Gortloney national school, (2) Maio national school and (3) Athboy Vocational school; and the further steps, if any, to be taken before completion of the replacement works.

The offer by the school authorities of a suitable site for a new national school at Gortloney is awaited.

With regard to the proposed extension to Maio national school, a response is awaited from the school authorities concerning the local contribution. When this matter has been agreed a grant will be sanctioned and the project may then proceed to the preparation of working drawings and bill of quantities, the invitation of tenders and the placing of a contract.

Agreement has been reached with the County Meath Vocational Education Committee on a schedule of accommodation for a permanent extension to Athboy vocational school. The planning of the extension was initiated at a meeting held on 7 November 1980 between officers of my Department's building unit and the chief executive officer of the County Meath Vocational Education Committee and members of the committee's design team.

The further planning of the project will involve the various stages of design preparation and subsequently the bill of quantities before tenders are sought. It is not possible at this stage to say when this process may be completed.
