Vol. 326 No. 9

Written Answers. - Fee-Paying Catholic Schools.

170.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in relation to fee-paying Catholic secondary schools in each of the years 1978-1979 and 1979-1980: (i) the estimated total number of teachers in receipt of incremental salary from his Department; (ii) the estimated total incremental salary paid to teachers in such schools; (iii) the estimated amount paid in capitation grants to such schools; and (iv) the estimated amount of money paid by his Department in building grants.

The available information is as follows:

(i) the estimated number of teachers in question was 713 in 1978-79 and 743 in 1979-80; (ii) the total amount of incremental salary paid to teachers is not accounted for by reference to fee-paying Catholic schools and other schools and it would involve an inordinate amount of official time to compile the information requested; (iii) the estimated amounts in capitation grants paid to the schools in question was £337,205 in 1978-79 and £276,065 in 1979-80; (iv) the estimated amount in building grants paid to the schools in question was £403,547 in 1979 and £88,419 in 1980.

Questions Nos. 171 to 173, inclusive, withdrawn.
