Written Answers. - Whiddy Island Inquiry Fees.

asked the Minister for Finance (a) the cost to date of the Whiddy inquiry; (b) the number of senior counsel employed; (c) the fees paid to each senior and junior counsel; and (d) the maximum fee paid for any one day.

The details sought are as follows:

(a) The cost to the Exchequer to date of the Whiddy Island Disaster Inquiry is £1,014,000. (Note: The expenditure does not include the cost of salaries paid out of Exchequer sources).

(b) Two Senior Counsel were employed for the Attorney General, one of whom was replaced when he was appointed a Judge of the High Court. Two Senior Counsel were employed for the Tribunal itself.

(c) The fees paid to each Senior and Junior Counsel are as follows:
