Vol. 326 No. 11

Written Answers. - VECs Arts Education Organisers.

300.

asked the Minister for Education the plans he has for funding the work of the arts education organisers appointed to VECs in Counties Sligo, Westmeath and Kilkenny; and the steps which have been taken to establish committees and vocational educational interests in each of the areas where arts education organisers have been appointed.

Three of the 50 adult education organisers whose appointments were approved in 1979 were intended to cater on a regional basis in the north west, midlands and south east, for duties specifically related to the Arts in the context of the report entitled "The Place of the Arts in Irish Education: Report of the Arts Council Working Party on the Arts in Education, 1979". As the programme is still at a developmental stage, long-term procedures in specific terms have not yet been formulated for the funding of the activities generated as a result of their efforts. An arts sub-committee has already been established in the north west region and arrangements are currently being made to have similar organisations established in the two other regions. In the short-term the relevant costs are being met from the general funds of the vocational education committees.
