Vol. 326 No. 11

Written Answers. - Dublin Junction Traffic Movement.

371.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the expenditure of public funds which has resulted in obstructing the flow of traffic taking a left hand turn in the direction towards Templeogue road from Kimmage Cross Road, Dublin, at the junction of Fortfield Road/Wainsfort Road, Terenure; if he approved of the expenditure; and, having regard to the fact that considerable taxpayers' money has been expended elsewhere in easing traffic movement to the left at junctions, why, in this case, taxpayers' money has been expended to do the opposite.

Proposals for works of this nature are not submitted to my Department. The planning and execution of road works at the junction in question are accordingly matters wholly within the discretion of the road authority concerned subject to the relevant statutory provisions and would not require my sanction. The cost of the work would fall to be met from the authority's own resources supplemented by the General (Block) Grant.
