Vol. 326 No. 11

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

372.

(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for the Environment the date on which a person (details supplied) in County Cavan applied for a home improvement grant; how many occasions applications for inspection and payment were made by Deputy Tom Fitzpatrick (Cavan-Monaghan) on behalf of the applicant; the date of inspection; when the grant will be paid; and if he will explain the delay in the matter and take steps to have the grant paid immediately.

The person named applied to my Department for a house improvement grant on 17 February 1978. The only representations from the Deputy which can be traced are dated 17 December 1980. An inspection was carried out during the week ended 9 January 1981, and the grant was paid on 2 February 1981.

A sewerage grant of £150 has also been approved, but the inspector reported last month that the work was not completed. When it is, my Department should be notified so that an inspection can be arranged with a view to payment of the grant. The delay in dealing with the case was due to the large number of grant applications being processed in the Department.
