The application referred to is for a residential line. Service is dependent on the provision of cabling which, because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention at present, is unlikely to be undertaken until about a year's time.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the length of time since a person (details supplied) in County Meath first applied for a telephone service; and when it is expected that the telephone will be installed.
The application was made in January 1977. Provision of service is dependent on expansion of the local exchange. Additional capacity will be provided when the local exchange is converted to automatic working during the first half of 1982 but the possibility of extending the existing manual exchange and so enabling service to be provided to this and other applicants in the meantime is being explored.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the urgent need of an applicant (details supplied) in Dublin for telephone service for his business; and how soon it will be possible to meet the application.
I am aware of the applicant's need for telephone service, but this cannot be provided until cabling to serve the area is carried out towards the end of this year.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state in respect of (i) Laurel Lodge Housing estate, Castleknock and (ii) Hartstown estate, phases 3 and 4, Clonsilla, County Dublin, how many telephone applications have been received; and when service will be provided.

It is expected that service will be provided for applicants in both areas when the necessary cabling is completed towards the end of this year.
