Vol. 328 No. 10

Written Answers. - Liquor Licence Extensions.

292.

asked the Minister for Justice if he intends to introduce legislation following the Supreme Court decision in relation to bar extensions as reported in the media (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have noted the judgment of the Supreme Court, delivered on 12 March 1981 relating to special exemption orders under the Intoxicating Liquor Acts.

As I have indicated on a number of previous occasions, the Intoxicating Liquor Acts are being reviewed with a view to the introduction of legislation to help to counteract abuses which have arisen. Excessive late-night drinking comes within the scope of this review and the question as to whether any amendments should be proposed to the statutory provisions relating to special exemption orders is being considered in this connection. If, as a result of this examination, any such amendments are proposed, the matter will, of course, come before the House in the normal way.
