Vol. 330 No. 5

Written Answers. - School for Moderately Handicapped.

587.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons for the delay in the construction of a new special school for moderately handicapped children at Newcastle, County Wicklow; and when construction will commence.

Legal problems arose in relation to the terms of the lease of the site of the proposed special school at Newcastle, County Wicklow. These problems, which were resolved recently, caused some delay. The Commissioners of Public Works acting on my Department's instructions, are now in consultation with the chairman's consultants regarding the tenders submitted for this project. I anticipate that it may prove possible to have building work commenced soon but I am not in a position at this stage to give a precise date.
