Vol. 330 No. 7

Written Answers. - Mayo Harbour Improvements.

136.

asked the Minister for Finance the plans he has for harbour improvements at Inisturk, County Mayo.

An outline scheme for substantial improvements estimated to cost £150,000 at 1980 prices to the main landing place at Inisturk was prepared at the request of the Minister for Fisheries. It was considered, however, that the level of fishing on the island did not warrant expenditure of this magnitude. As a result the proposal was referred to the Central Development Committee, which is located in my Department, and to which a general responsibility for the affairs of inhabited non-Gaeltacht islands has been assigned, to consider whether the proposed expenditure is warranted in the light of the overall communications needs of the islanders and taking account of present financial constraints. I have not yet received a report from the committee on the matter.
