Vol. 334 No. 8

Written Answers. - Kildare-Dublin Dual Carriageway.

128.

asked the Minister for the Environment if any preliminary plans have been drawn up for the development of the dual carriageway between Kilcock, County Kildare and Dublin.

On 20 May 1981 I approved outline proposals prepared by Dublin County Council and Kildare County Council for the major improvement of the national primary route N4 in these areas and asked them to proceed with detailed planning of what in effect will be a new route by-passing Lucan, Leixlip, Maynooth and Kilcock.

On 10 March 1982 I approved Dublin County Council's proposal to accept a tender for the construction of the Palmerstown-Ballydowd by-pass and work on that scheme is expected to commence at an early date.

Outline proposals, prepared by Dublin Corporation, for a by-pass of Chapelizod were approved in June 1974. The Corporation subsequently decided not to proceed with the approved scheme and I understand that the corporation are at present considering an alternative scheme for the by-pass.
