Vol. 337 No. 10

Written Answers. - Dublin Job Approvals.

507.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the number of industrial jobs approved in each of the past five years in (i) the catchment covered by Gardiner Street, North Cumberland Street and Navan Road employment exchanges and (ii) Dublin city and county.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that it does not keep records of job approvals relating to the specific area mentioned in part (i) of the Deputy's Question. However, in 1979 the IDA established a special inner city unit to co-ordinate and execute a special programme for industrial development in the inner city. The area for which this unit are responsible is the area between the Royal Canal on the North and the Grand Canal on the South and stretches from the Phoenix Park in the West to Dublin Port in the East. The area involved is approximately six square miles.

The job approvals for this area are as follows: 1979, 1,698; 1980, 1,170; 1981, 1,180.

Job approvals in Dublin city and county (including the inner city area) are as follows: 1977, 6,145; 1978, 9,958; 1979, 10,397; 1980, 10,608.

Details of job approvals for 1981 will be given in the IDA's annual report which will be published shortly.
