Vol. 338 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Cars and Vehicles.

253.

asked the Minister for the Public Service the number of cars and other vehicles available to members of each Government Department, giving the types and makes where appropriate; if he will outline any subsidy, financial or otherwise, available from State funds towards the utilisation of cars in all Departments; and the number of people entitled to benefit from these facilities.

Staff of Government Departments who have to travel in the course of their official duties use their own vehicles and are recouped, on a mileage basis, the costs involved in the official travel carried out. The only exceptions to this arrangement are cases where, for obvious reasons, vehicles have to be provided, for example Post Office vans.
