284.

285.

asked the Minister for Justice the dates on which prosecutions have been brought under sections 58 and 59 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1981, over the last 20 years; and the last occasion on which a person was successfully prosecuted under the provisions of either of those sections.

, Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 284 and 285 together.

Four such prosecutions were brought during the period 1962 to 1981 inclusive. Three were brought in 1964 and one in 1968.

Of the three prosecutions in 1964, two resulted in acquittal and, in the other case, the charge was found proved and an order was made without conviction.

The prosecution brought in 1968 was dealt with in 1969. The charge was found proved and an order was made without conviction.
