Vol. 341 No. 3

Written Answers . - Colleges of Education .

731.

asked the Minister for Education the funds allocated in the current Estimates for non-pay areas in the colleges of education; and how this compares with the allocation for the previous year.

: The provision for grants for general purposes for the colleges of education as set out in subhead A1. of Vote Primary Education is subdivided in Part III of the Vote into (i) pay and (ii) other expenses.

The volume of the Estimates for 1983 to contain Part III of the Votes has not yet been published.

732.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware that the proposed reduction in part-time teaching staff in the colleges of education will have a serious impact on the training of specialist teachers to deal with the particular needs of disadvantaged children such as the special education course for experienced teachers in St. Patrick's Training College, Drumcondra, Dublin; and if she will ensure that sufficient funds are made available to retain the services of part-time teachers.

: Adjustments being considered to the staffing of the colleges of education take account of the reduction in the number of students in the colleges. I am satisfied that adequate financial provision is being made to ensure fully satisfactory teaching provision.
