asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in relation to each of the five years since its introduction, the number of people who availed themselves of the ground rents purchase scheme under the Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) (No. 2) Act, 1978, in relation to dwelling houses; and the number of cases that were referred to arbitration.

, Limerick East): The special Land Registry purchase scheme for ground rent tenants of dwellinghouses came into operation on 1 August 1978. The numbers of purchase applications lodged in the Land Registry under the scheme in each year (or part of a year) since then were: Year ending 31 July 1979, 3090; year ending 31 July 1980, 5131; year ending 31 July 1981, 5838; year ending 31 July 1982, 6128; seven months to 28 February 1983, 4174.

Of these, the numbers of cases in which vesting certificates have issued were 2,272; 3,268; 6,968; 5,168 and 3,495 respectively and the numbers of applications involving arbitration were 319; 827; 752; 816 and 723 respectively.
