asked the Minister for Finance the total of all moneys received by way of grants from the EEC for the last year for which figures are available; and the total figure paid by the State by way of our contribution towards the cost of our membership.

Total receipts by way of grants and subsidies from the EEC in 1982 were £597.8 million. The total payments arising from membership of the European Communities amounted to £141 million made up of (i) Ireland's contribution to the EEC Budget for 1982 (£136.7 million) and (ii) contributions to the European Investment Bank, the European Coal and Steel Community, Euratom and Research Programmes and some miscellaneous payments (£4.3 million).

asked the Minister for Finance if he will list the various grants paid to the State by the EEC for the last year for which figures are available.

Ireland's receipts from the EEC Budget in 1982 totalled £597.8 million made up as follows: FEOGA Guarantee Section, £344.3 million; FEOGA Guidance Section, £60.9 million; European Social Fund, £73.2 million; European Regional Development Fund, £66.1 million; EMS interest subsidies, £50.1 million; Projects in the energy sector, research and investment projects and miscellaneous, £3.2 million.
