Vol. 342 No. 7

Written Answers. - Condition of Tralee Public Offices.

608.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the conditions under which members of the Civil and Public Services Staff Association are working at Tralee employment exchange, County Kerry due to the dangerous and bad condition of the roof; if he will arrange for a complete inspection of the building; and if he will have the necessary work carried out immediately.

The Commissioners of Public Works are aware that there are defects in the roof of the Tralee employment exchange. The architect has carried out an inspection but it will be necessary to have a section of the roof opened up to ascertain exactly what needs to be done. Once the extent of the problem has been established the commissioners will arrange to have the necessary remedial works put in hands.

609.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the serious problems that have arisen at the bovine office, Oakpark, Tralee, County Kerry, where the main ceiling recently caved in and members of the staff had a very narrow escape from serious injury; and if he will give an assurance that the situation will be rectified to the satisfaction of the local branch of the Civil and Public Services Staff Association.

The offices at Oakpark, Tralee, are in rented accommodation. The ceiling collapse referred to was on one of the corridors on the first floor of the premises and when it occurred the landlord took immediate temporary remedial action. The Commissioners of Public Works carried out their own examination of the damage and have been in touch with the landlord about the execution of permanent repairs. The commissioners understand that the landlord hopes to be ready to have the repairs put in hands shortly.
