Vol. 342 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Cork Industrial Development.

633.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the plans he has under the factory building programme for 1983 for the towns of Mallow, Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Buttevant, County Cork; and if he will give a detailed explanation of the type of industry envisaged.

I am informed by the IDA that there is a total of over 420,000 sq. ft. of factory space available for industrial promotion at 11 locations in County Cork.

Apart from the 30,000 sq. ft. enterprise centre and the 5 × 1,000 small industry incubator units announced for Cork City and those factories for which contracts already exist, no further new factories will be constructed by the IDA or under private finance arrangements in County Cork in 1983.

I would however, point out that a 24,000 sq. ft. advance factory now nearing completion is being provided in Mallow under a private finance arrangement with the IDA. In addition, the IDA have 21 acres in Mallow, nine acres in both Fermoy and Mitchelstown, and five acres in Buttevant which are all being promoted for suitable industrial projects.

These facilities will assist the IDA in their effort to attract new industries to these locations.
