Vol. 343 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport.

853.

asked the Minister for Education if she will arrange to have school transport provided as a matter of urgency free of charge for the school children of Glynn/St. Mullans, County Carlow.

The Glynn/St. Mullans area is within the Graiguenamanagh post-primary catchment area and the school in Graiguenamanagh provides adequate courses at both senior and junior cycle levels. The senior cycle course was introduced in September 1982.

A transport service is provided to convey pupils from the Glynn/St. Mullans area to Graiguenamanagh. Any pupils resident in the Glynn/St. Mullans area who had commenced senior cycle courses at centres other than Graiguenamanagh prior to September 1982 are considered fully eligible for transport to those other centres.

Charges at the appropriate rates (unless waived in the case of families holding medical cards) must be paid in respect of pupils in receipt of transport facilities to post-primary centres.

854.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the pilot schemes carried out over the past five years on the provision of school transport by private enterprise.

No pilot schemes involving private enterprises in the provision of school transport have been carried out over the past five years.
